Showcasing the vital role of wayfinding design, branding, and clear communication in shaping a changemaking workplace strategy for Accenture’s London head office.

The challenge was to infuse a sense of home and ensure optimal functionality for individuals who spend just one day a week at shared desks. Accenture’s London office now stands as a dynamic hub, deeply rooted in the client's culture of expertise, mobility, and flexibility.

The sixth floor of their Fenchurch Street office houses more than 600 people and flexible teams embracing the modern workplace. The signage and wayfinding design and environmental branding had to not only simplify navigation for those with limited time in the space, but also amplify the distinct elements defining the client's identity. The redesigned space incorporates branded areas to elevate the work environment, introduces vibrant colours for segmentation and navigation, and strategically integrates wayfinding elements inspired by iconic London themes to reinforce communication around themes within the building. This project is a reflection of how large corporate businesses need to be committed to evolving workspaces that are both functional and wellbeing-focused.

My passion for environmental design and creative problem-solving was truly engaged during this project. The groundwork for a signage system of this scale had its challenges, particularly as the entire floor was going through a design refurb where layouts and new furnishings altered familiarity with staff, the updated signage and wayfinding strategy had to not only engage people but function in successful navigational system. This project also had the intricacies of feeling connected with other floors in the building. Creative themes and colour assignments played an essential part in how to recognise where you were, which boardrooms to book and the associated naming and numbering systems for rooms, desks and lockers.

It was a complex task, as once the strategy was in place, the signage design pack had to be produced; with scale-drawn artworks for production, including material specification, install instructions and clear placement directions on the floorplan. Everything about delivering a project of this scale is down to details and organisation. It was a proud achievement to have completed this while at Edge, who were the lead architects on this project.

+ Accenture wanted to encourage creative signage as a way to humanise traditionally corporate spaces. This was one of the areas of the brief where creative freedom allowed us to work closely with the signgage contractor to produce some challenging, yet fun, installations that created an engaging, welcoming environment.
